Asturias may not be known as a classic sun-and-beach destination—mainly because the warmth isn’t always guaranteed—but our coastline has nothing to envy. Would you like to discover the eastern coast of Asturias? All you have to do is join the “Eastern Coast” tour with Vente a Caleyar, visiting the seaside towns of Ribadesella and Llanes, and learning about the unique geological formation of the blowholes (bufones).
Small Group Excursion – Full Day (Approx. 8 hours)
This is a small-group tour lasting approximately 8 hours, offering a detailed look at the region’s hidden coves and limestone landscapes.
Departure is around 09:00 am from your accommodation in Gijón or Oviedo. The service includes guided visits throughout the day and transport in a comfortable 9-seat Mercedes Vito minivan. The price is €65 per person (VAT included), and the tour is guaranteed with a minimum of 2 participants, so there’s no need to worry about cancellations. Access to the blowholes is on foot, as vehicles are not allowed in the area. The walk is short, but comfortable clothing and footwear are recommended. Given Asturias’ changeable weather, it’s also a good idea to bring a raincoat or umbrella, as well as sunscreen.
Throughout the day, stories, local history and anecdotes about the area help make the journey both informative and enjoyable.
Ribadesella
Less than an hour after departure, we arrive in Ribadesella. A walk along the estuary introduces us to the town’s history, illustrated by the well-known Mingote panels, famous for their ironic and distinctive style.
If energy allows, we continue up to the Hermitage of La Guía, where beautiful views over the town await us, before entering Ribadesella through its historic old quarter.
Blowholes
After visiting Ribadesella, we head towards Puertas de Vidiago, where there is time to enjoy traditional Asturian cuisine (lunch not included).
Before that, however, we work up an appetite with a short 1 km walk leading to a striking natural feature: the Bufones de Arenillas. With a bit of luck and the right sea conditions, you may see them release their full force, sending water and air shooting upwards from the cliffs.
Llanes
After lunch, we continue to the final stop of the tour: Llanes. Often described as a cinematic town, Llanes is discovered at a relaxed pace while walking along the San Pedro coastal path and through the old town, where part of the historic wall is still preserved.
