The most charming villages in Asturias for many people are the coastal traditional small villages, and this tour is the perfect way to experience their maritime culture. You’ll visit two of the most beautiful fishing villages, Tazones and Lastres, stroll through the Apple Capital, Villaviciosa, and walk along the beach with Europe’s largest sauropod dinosaur footprints at La Griega Beach.
Small Group Excursion – Full Day (Approx. 8 hours)
This is a small-group tour with an official local guide and transport in a 9-seat Mercedes Vito minivan, departing around 10:00 am from your accommodation in Gijón or Oviedo (other options available on request).
The tour lasts approximately 8 hours and costs €55 per person (VAT included). It is guaranteed with a minimum of 2 participants, so there is no risk of cancellation. If you prefer a fully private experience, the entire vehicle can also be reserved, and the tour can be tailored to your interests. Contact me for a custom proposal.
Although the route can be adapted for those with limited mobility, the idea is to explore the surroundings on foot, so comfortable clothing and footwear are recommended. Asturias’ weather can be unpredictable, so it’s also important to bring both a raincoat/umbrella and sunscreen.
The drive between locations is comfortable and enjoyable, with your guide sharing stories and history of Asturias and the places we visit.
Villaviciosa
Our first stop is Villaviciosa, a town with a unique name. Don’t worry—the “vice” in its name comes from the exceptional quality of its crops. Known as “The Apple Capital”, we’ll stroll through its cobbled streets and learn about an important historical event: the Landing of Charles I of Spain / V of Germany in 1517.
Fishing Village: Tazones
Next, we head to Tazones, where the landing took place before Charles I stayed in Villaviciosa.
In this captivating village, the scents of the sea are unmistakable. Tazones has always been closely linked to fishing, and even whale hunting in the past.
This will also be our stop to enjoy traditional Asturian cuisine (lunch not included).
La Griega Beach
After lunch, we take a walk along La Griega Beach, where the sands hold a journey back in time. You’ll see, with your own eyes, fossilized footprints of Jurassic sauropod dinosaurs, bringing millions of years of history to life.
Fishing Village: Lastres
The tour ends in Lastres, a seaside village known for its elegant houses and stunning coastal views. Lastres also gained fame as the filming location for the Spanish TV series “Doctor Mateo” (2011). Here we continue to explore traditional Asturian architecture and the village’s rich maritime heritage.
