“CALEYAR”

Yo muy abrigada en pleno invierno con ropa azul, haciendo camino entre la nieve blanca que cubre el sendero del bosque de Muniellos, llegándome hasta las rodillas. Representación gráfica de lo que sería "caleyar" (caminar).

Hello, “caleyante”!

I thought it was only fair that one of the first blog post explains the meaning behind the company name: Vente a “Caleyar”. Although, with the initial introduction, you probably already have an idea.

It’s an expression that mixes Spanish (“vente, which means “to come”) and Asturian language (“caleyar”).

Asturian is a Romance language derived from Latin. While it is not officially recognized (yet), it is protected and has its own grammar, literature, variants, and dialects.

Many people still call it Bable, which is fine. I personally prefer Asturian, partly because one theory says “Bable” comes from the kings claiming that people were babbling… so, just in case…

Meaning of “CALEYAR”: According to the Diccionario de la Llingua Asturiana, caleyar is:

  1. To walk [from one place to another through streets, without a fixed direction].
  2. To walk [from one place to another having fun, leaving chores and obligations aside].
  3. To walk [wandering, daydreaming].
  4. To walk [a lot].

So, what better name to describe what I wanted to do: help you forget your obligations, have a great time, and explore my beloved “tierrina“?

So, are you ready to caleyar?
